Sao Jacinto Island
Sao Jacinto Island or san Jacinto Island in Goa is a hidden Island
which is also known as san Antonio. It is situated in Mormugao. Its is 5km away
from the Bogmalo beach and at a distance of 22km away from the capital city of Panjim.
Sao Jacinto Island is located in south Goa. This petit Island is abundantly
blessed with incredible, breathtaking natural beauty.
It is just a few kilometres away from the Dabolim
international airport. There are 2 ways of reaching the Island, that is by boat
and a causeway called the silver bridge which connects the Island with the
coastal Panjim Vasco highway.
Scenes of the famous Bollywood movie ‘finding fanny’ was
shot on the causeway. There is a underground tunnel which connects the church
with the other side of the river which is called Siridao. The Siridao beach
resort, is located on the bank of Mormugao bay.
There is a small village surrounded by the woods on the Island.
Therefore, most of the Island is covered with forest and is dotted with old
houses along with a beautiful with church, which can be seen from far away NH-17
Vasco Panjim coastal highway. The church is named as St Hyacinthi Cathedral and
its feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of September.
The main attraction of the Jacinto Island is this church
which provides a picturesque view from the hill top. And the view thought is
quiet magnificent. And also there is a statue of our lady but the church which
is now closed. it is a very peaceful and quiet place with some photographs
which can be taken.
In the 30’s of the 20th century, the san Jacinto
inhabitants had made a promise to never give their Island on a lease and let
construction companies to build industrial facilities on their Island. Therefore
here is the Island which still has its natural charm and beauty.
So also on the Sao Jacinto Island one can find a well
preserved old Portuguese lighthouse from the top of which you can enjoy the
beautiful breathtaking view. Sao Jacinto is one of the beautiful Island in Goa.
